Glide
Privacy Policy
Last updated 1 October 2026
Glide is a personal blood‑glucose monitoring app. It collects health information, so we keep this policy plain and specific: what we collect, why, where it goes, how long we keep it, and how you delete it. We do not sell your data, we do not use it for advertising, and we do not track you across other apps or websites.

Who we are
Glide is operated by an independent developer ("we", "us"). For privacy questions, including to exercise any of the rights below, contact privacy@glidebg.com.
Glide is not a medical device and does not provide medical advice. It is a tool for viewing and logging your own data. Do not make dosing decisions based on Glide. Follow your CGM's instructions, and confirm treatment decisions with your glucose meter and your healthcare provider.
What information we collect
We only collect what the app needs to function. There are no ad SDKs and no third‑party trackers.
| Category | Examples | How we get it |
|---|---|---|
| Account | Email address; an internal account identifier | You provide your email to sign in (passwordless, one‑time codes by email). |
| Glucose data | Continuous glucose monitor (CGM) readings and trends | Retrieved from your connected data source (Dexcom, Libre or Medtrum) using credentials you enter. |
| Events you log | Insulin (boluses), carbohydrates/meals, notes, and optional meal photos | You enter them in the app. |
| Data‑source credentials | Your Dexcom Share, LibreLinkUp or Medtrum EasyFollow username and password | You enter them so Glide can fetch your readings on your behalf. |
| Consent record | The version of the consent screen you agreed to, and when | Recorded when you tap I agree on the first screen of the app. |
| Phone number (optional) | The number the night alarm calls | You enter and verify it in Settings → Alerts, only if you turn on the night call. |
| App settings | Targets, chart bounds, insulin sensitivity / carb ratio, notification preferences | You set them; synced across your devices. |
| Analytics (anonymous) | Which screens and features are used, app version, basic device type | Collected automatically, without your name, email, or account identifier attached, and not linked to your identity (see below). |
How we use it
- Show your glucose, trends, and the events you log.
- Fetch new readings from your connected data source.
- Estimate carbohydrates from a meal photo when you ask (see below).
- Sync your settings and shared streams across your devices and any followers you invite.
- Send the alerts and notifications you turn on (lows, rapid changes, signal loss, night alarm).
- Understand which features are used, in aggregate, to improve the app.
We do not use your health data for advertising, profiling unrelated to the app, or any purpose beyond operating Glide for you.
AI carb estimates
When you choose to estimate a meal's carbohydrates from a photo, that photo is sent over an encrypted connection to a third‑party AI provider (OpenRouter and the model it routes to) solely to return a carbohydrate estimate. We route only to providers under a zero‑data‑retention policy: your photo is not used to train models and is not retained by the provider after the estimate is returned. This only happens when you tap to estimate; the app asks for your consent the first time. If you prefer not to use it, simply enter carbs manually.
Who we share data with
We do not sell your personal data. We share it only with the service providers needed to run Glide:
- Amazon Web Services (AWS) — hosting, database, and storage in the United States (region us‑east‑1).
- Your data source (Dexcom, Abbott LibreLinkUp or Medtrum) — to authenticate and fetch your glucose readings.
- OpenRouter — only the meal photos you choose to estimate, as described above.
- PostHog — anonymous product analytics (not linked to your identity), processed in the United States.
- Cloudflare — hosts this website and counts its page views with Cloudflare Web Analytics, which sets no cookies. It applies to glidebg.com only, not the app.
- Telnyx — only if you turn on the night call: your phone number, to verify it by text and to place the alarm call.
- Apple — push notifications, and subscription purchases (Apple handles payment; we never see your card).
- People you invite — if you share access to your stream with a follower (e.g. a family member), they can see that stream's glucose and events. You can remove a follower at any time.
We may also disclose information if required by law, or to protect the safety, rights, or security of users.
Data retention & deletion
- Glucose readings and events are kept until you delete the stream or your account.
- Deleted events leave a small marker for up to 60 days so the deletion syncs across your devices, then are removed.
- Meal photos are kept until you delete the event, the stream, or your account.
- Account email and identifiers are kept until you delete your account.
- Anonymous analytics are retained in aggregate and are not tied to you.
You can delete your account at any time from Settings → Delete account in the app. This deletes your sign‑in account and the data keyed to it; if you own a monitored stream, that stream's glucose history, events, and photos are deleted too.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete, or obtain a copy of your personal data, and to withdraw consent. You can delete your account and data directly in the app. For any other request, email privacy@glidebg.com and we'll respond within the time required by applicable law. We will not discriminate against you for exercising these rights.
Consumer health data (Washington, Nevada, Connecticut, and similar)
Glide collects "consumer health data" as defined by laws such as the Washington My Health My Data Act. This section describes our practices for that data.
- What we collect & sources: glucose readings (from your connected CGM data source), and the insulin, carbohydrate, meal, and note events you enter — described in detail above.
- Purpose: to provide the app's monitoring, logging, alerting, and optional carb‑estimation features to you.
- Sharing: we do not sell consumer health data and do not share it for advertising. We share it only with the service providers listed above and with followers you choose to invite, for the sole purpose of operating the app.
- Consent: we collect this data with your explicit consent, which you give on the first screen of the app before you can sign in, and which we record against your account. AI carb estimation asks for a separate consent before any photo is shared.
- Your rights: you may withdraw consent, and access or delete your consumer health data, via in‑app account deletion or by emailing privacy@glidebg.com.
If you live in the EEA, the UK or Switzerland
The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), the UK GDPR and the Swiss data protection law give you the rights below. The controller of your data is the operator of Glide, contactable at privacy@glidebg.com or by mail at Jan Kalis (Glide), PO Box 20052, New York, NY 10014, USA.
- Legal basis. Glucose readings, insulin, meals and the other health data in Glide are special category data. We process them on the basis of your explicit consent (Art. 9(2)(a) GDPR), which you give on the first screen of the app. Your email and account data are processed to provide the service you signed up for (Art. 6(1)(b)). Anonymous analytics rely on our legitimate interest in improving the app (Art. 6(1)(f)); they carry no name, email or account identifier.
- Withdrawing consent. Glide cannot work without processing health data, so withdrawing consent means deleting your account: Settings → Delete account. Deletion does not affect processing that took place before it.
- Your rights. You can ask to access, correct, delete, restrict or receive a copy of your data (portability), and object to processing based on legitimate interest. Deletion is in the app; for everything else, email privacy@glidebg.com. We answer within one month.
- Where your data is. Glide is run from the United States and stores data in AWS us‑east‑1 (Virginia). The app sends your data there directly. AWS processes it under the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses, which its data processing terms include. PostHog, OpenRouter, Telnyx and Apple (see Who we share data with) also process data in the United States.
- Automated decisions. Glide makes no decision about you that has a legal or similarly significant effect. Forecasts, alerts and carb estimates are information for you to check.
- Age. If you are under the age of digital consent in your country (between 13 and 16 in the EU), a parent or guardian must agree to this processing for you.
- Complaints. You can complain to the data protection authority where you live: the EU authorities, the UK ICO, or the Swiss FDPIC. We would like the chance to fix it first, at privacy@glidebg.com.
If you live in Canada
The federal privacy law (PIPEDA) and, in Quebec, the Act respecting the protection of personal information in the private sector give you the rights below. The person in charge of protecting your personal information is Jan Kalis, the operator of Glide, at privacy@glidebg.com or Jan Kalis (Glide), PO Box 20052, New York, NY 10014, USA.
- Consent. Glucose readings, insulin, meals and the other data in Glide are health information. We collect them with your express consent, which you give on the first screen of the app. Glide cannot work without them, so withdrawing consent means deleting your account: Settings → Delete account.
- Your rights. You can ask to see the personal information we hold about you, have it corrected, or receive a copy in a structured, commonly used format. Deletion is in the app; for everything else, email privacy@glidebg.com. We answer within 30 days.
- Where your data is. Glide stores your data in the United States (AWS us‑east‑1, Virginia), and the service providers in Who we share data with also process it there. While it is in the United States, courts, law enforcement and national security authorities there may be able to access it under United States law.
- Age. In Quebec, a person under 14 needs a parent or guardian to agree to this processing for them.
- Complaints. You can complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada or, in Quebec, the Commission d'accès à l'information. We would like the chance to fix it first, at privacy@glidebg.com.
Children
A child may use Glide with the permission of a parent or guardian. For a child under 13, a parent or guardian agrees in the app when the account is created, and we store that agreement and its time with the account. We do not store the date of birth. A parent or guardian may also follow a child's glucose from their own account. A parent or guardian can ask to see or delete a child's data at privacy@glidebg.com, or delete the account in the app. If a child under 13 has an account without a parent or guardian's agreement, contact us and we will delete it.
Security
All connections use HTTPS. Sign‑in tokens are stored in the device keychain, and signing out clears cached health data from the device. Data is stored on AWS with access controls and encryption at rest. No system is perfectly secure, but we work to protect your information and will notify you and the relevant authorities of a qualifying data breach as required by law.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the app evolves. We'll revise the "last updated" date above, and for material changes we'll provide notice in the app. Continued use after an update means you accept the revised policy.
